Storage and Maintenance of Fishing Rods

Fishing is no longer possible in winter, so your rods require careful maintenance to prolong their lifespan. If you’re not using a carbon fiber rod, it’s best to store it in its original case. Once placed in the case, avoid keeping it in a regular room; instead, store it in a dry storage area where the temperature remains steady at 20–25°C and the humidity does not exceed 60%. For rods without their original packaging, first place them in a rod tube, then slip them into a rod bag. Both the tube and the bag should be stored upright in the storage space—never laid horizontally—to prevent crushing or deformation.
Every year in late spring, when the temperature difference between day and night is small and indoor temperatures are moderate, open the storage room to allow air circulation between inside and outside. Remove the new carbon‑fiber rods one section at a time, gently wipe them with rock‑skin cloth (or glass cloth) to remove any surface dust. After brushing off the old rod’s accumulated dirt, apply a thin coat of wax to keep the rod clean and shiny—new rods do not require waxing. Then return the rods to the storage room. If you don’t have a dedicated storage space, build a tightly sealed cabinet and store the rods inside, protecting them from direct sunlight. In summer, maintain an indoor temperature that does not exceed 28–30°C; in winter, keep it no lower than 18–20°C.
Do not use the rods as decorative elements by attaching them to the wall one by one. Over time, carbon rods not only accumulate dust—frequent wiping can dull the waterproof coating and degrade its quality—but they also become prone to deformation. Moreover, polymer‑based products of this type are subject to aging, which is driven by three primary factors: photo‑aging, thermal aging, and UV‑induced aging. Prolonged exposure of carbon rods indoors will further accelerate their degradation. Therefore, to extend their service life, it is best to store these rods in a light‑proof, temperature‑controlled storage room or cabinet.
